The daughter of wealthy farmers in the South of France, Gabrielle (Academy Award Winner Marion Cotillard) is a free-spirited woman. In post-World War II France, when women were destined to marry and raise a family, Gabrielle’s dreams of true love and absolute passion create scandal. After yet another incident, her parents, fearing for her sanity, quickly marry her to José, a seasonal Spanish worker.

Despite José’s devotion to her, Gabrielle vows that she will never love him and quietly endures her unwanted life, until the day she is sent away to a hospital in the Alps to heal her kidney stones. There she meets handsome lieutenant André Sauvage (Louis Garrel, My King - SFFF 2016) wounded in battle in Indochina. Sauvage revives in her the urgency to love. He seems to share her desire, and this time, Gabrielle is determined to not let her dream escape…

Directed by Nicole Garcia (A View of Love - SFFF 2012) the romantic and stunningly beautiful From the Land of the Moon received eight nominations (including Best Film, Director, Actor, and Supporting Actress) at the 2017 César Awards. Nicole Garcia started her career as an actress before she started directing (starring in 38 Witnesses - SFFF 2012). She has a cameo in Divorce French Style, this year at the SFFF.
