Prosper (the hilarious Jean-Pascal Zadi, from Represent on Netflix) is a shy Uber driver who still lives with his mother (Salimata Kamate, Striking the Palace - SFFF 2024). When he finds his latest client dead in the back of his car with a big wad of cash in his pocket, Prosper decides to keep the cash, dispose of the corpse, and, on a whim, steal the dead man’s fabulous custom-made crocodile boots. The boots, it turns out, are not only fabulous – they are magical. As he slips them on, Prosper becomes possessed by the vibrant spirit of the deceased. Beyond death, King (Makita Samba), a flamboyant gangster and “sapeur,” has two desires: to take revenge on the man who killed him, and to instill a sense of style and confidence in the clueless Prosper. United as one, and with the help of King’s girlfriend Anissa (Cindy Bruna), they set out to investigate the Parisian “Sape” scene and unmask King's killer. Meanwhile, the killer is after the cash.

This well paced, cheerfully sweet mystery comedy with an all-black cast is infused with a touch of fantasy that makes it quite unique. Set in the colorful world of "La Sape,” Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes ("Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People"), it gives us an inside look into this black subculture movement born in the Congo whose members take dressing up and partying very seriously.
