REVIEWS

A fresh, delicate and playful comedy where homosexuality is no longer a "painful problem" but becomes a societal evidence. Nathalie Zimra - Les Fiches du Cinéma

We recommend this film to everyone: homos, heteros, bi... because, to quote Cyprien Vial, "it's a singular and ordinary film." And because it is funny. Lucie Vidal - La Voix du Nord

France's first lesbian "rom com" has arrived! There is audacity and flavor in OcéaneRoseMarie's first steps as a director. Olivier Pélisson - Bande à part

We've been waiting for a while for a French gay romantic comedy which wouldn't revolve around the idea of coming out!

Fresh from yet another breakup, fun-loving osteopath Océanerosemarie (Océan) is jogging in the woods when she stumbles upon the beautiful Cécile (Alice Pol) doing gymnastics. All it takes is one failed headstand for Océanerosemarie to jump in and offer her healing touch. Before long, she is convinced Cécile is "the One." But Cécile is the shy, quiet type, while Océanerosemarie is a boisterous party animal surrounded by loud friends and a bunch of ex-girlfriends, including the latest, Fantine (Laure Calamy), a successful architect who isn’t ready to let anyone take her place, especially in the heart of Océanerosemarie's cool mom (Michèle Laroque). If she wants to win Cécile over, it is time for Océanerosemarie to grow up a little. Is she capable of it?

While Kiss Me! winningly navigates the tried and true formulas of the romantic comedy, it is remarkable for introducing a lesbian love story to the genre without depicting homosexuality as a problem or a novelty. Here, the trials and tribulations, joy and hilarity faced by the characters are those of any two people in love, subtly but firmly driving home the point that love is love, whatever the gender. It is a positive and joyous film.

In May 2018, Océan - previously known as Océanerosemarie (Océane Michel) - came out publicly as a trans man, and our screening of Kiss Me! will mark the one-month anniversary of his coming out! Océan is currently working on a documentary about his transition, started on January 2018.

Shown with HYPNOMATIC by Cécile Regis.
