REVIEWS

Two terrific actresses and a nuanced screenplay deliver the goods. (...) a well-observed and -written drama leavened with touching asides and comedic moments. It also offers something of a masterclass in French acting in the bargain. Boyd van Hoeij - The Hollywood Reporter

The true emotional heart of the film is the relationship between the women. It’s a funny, insightful, laid back look at the nature of female relationships. On a failli être amies is the first time Viard and Devos have worked together on film and they make a great team. Judith Prescott - French Cinema review

Marithé (Karin Viard, Polisse – SFFF 2012) works in a job training center. One day, Carole (Emmanuelle Devos, Read My Lips – SFFF 2002) arrives at the center, looking for new professional opportunities. She can no longer stand the pressure of working in the restaurant of her talented Michelin-starred chef husband, Sam (Roschdy Zem), nor does she want to live in his shadow anymore. The two women bond over their desire for change, and start becoming friends. But Marithé keeps meeting Sam around town and grows infatuated with him. The attraction seems mutual and suddenly Marithé has some very personal and selfish motives in helping Carole to start over…

A real crowd pleaser, The Chef’s Wife is a fun romantic comedy about love and friendship, featuring two of France’s most versatile and accomplished actresses.
