Riad Sattouf's take on the Cinderella story sends up gender norms in general and Islamic fundamentalism in particular (...) Riad Sattouf’s follow-up to teen laffer The French Kissers is a gender-bending farce with more than a touch of Monty Python, set in an authoritarian nation where women are in control and men, dressed in burqa-like outfits, are the subservient sex. Jay Weissberg - Variety
It’s raining men -- and they’re wearing full-body chadors and rhinestone dog leashes -- in Jacky in the Kingdom of Women, an outrageous political satire that depicts an imagined matriarchy where girls rule the world with an iron fist. Jordan Mintzer - The Hollywood Reporter

The story of Cinderella, revised and retold in outrageously comic style by director Riad Sattouf (The French Kissers – SFFF 2010).
In the Kingdom of Bubunne, women are in power while men wear chadors, do domestic tasks and are women's objects of desire. When it is time for the “Colonelle” (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Samba – opening film of the SFFF this year), daughter of the ruling dictator, the “Générale” (Anémone), to find a husband, a ball is organized and the country goes crazy… All the young men prepare for the big event, adorning themselves with their most beautiful and precious outfits.
Among them, Jacky (Vincent Lacoste, The French Kissers – SFFF 2010, Hippocrates – this year at the SFFF), a 20 year old orphan, is desperate to meet the Colonelle, the inaccessible fantasy of his dreams. But, mistreated by his step-family, he sees his dream gradually evade him...
With a cameo by director Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist, and the OSS 117 series - SFFF 2008 & 2010) as the godfather.
Shown with Lifever by Ted Hardy-Carnac
Saturday, June 20 - 11:30pm - ONE SCREENING ONLY!
