Everyone knows that opposites attract, but does that mean they can sustain a relationship?

Parisian philosophy professor Clément Le Guern (Loïc Corbery) is sent to teach in the northern town of Arras, and it makes him feel like he’s been sentenced to a year in the sticks! Things change when he meets Jennifer (Émilie Dequenne, Rosetta), a hairdresser. As she introduces Clément to the town’s hidden attractions, he is drawn to her warmth and directness, while she is smitten by his confidence and charm. On paper, the relationship shouldn’t work: where he’s Kant she’s karaoke, where he’s high culture she’s celebrity culture, where he’s all about PhDs she’s all about BFFs. But there is simply no denying the heat they generate together... Émilie Dequenne and rising La Comédie Française star Loïc Corbery's chemistry is one of the best thing in this bittersweet across-the-tracks romance.

Belvaux is a favorite of the SFFF! We presented The Trilogy in 2003, Rapt in 2010 and 38 Witnesses in 2012. Social division has been a recurrent theme throughout his nine films. Not My Type marks Belvaux's first forray into romance, and he puts his own unique twist on the genre. Not My Type, just released in France this April, is truly our "coup de Coeur" this year and we are very excited to present it as our 2014 opening film.
