One day, Mathieu (the handsome Pierre Deladonchamps, Stranger by the Lake - SFFF 2014), a thirtysomething Parisian in a boring job, receives a call from Quebec telling him that the father he never knew was Canadian and that he just died. Upon learning that his estranged father also had two other sons, Mathieu, who has been feeling adrift (his mother is dead and he recently separated from his wife, with whom he has a son), decides on a whim to hop on a plane to attend the funeral in order to meet his newfound siblings.

In Montreal, he is welcomed by Pierre (veteran Canadian actor Gabriel Arcand, younger brother of Oscar-nominated writer/director Denys), the close friend of his dad and the person who had called Mathieu from Quebec. Pierre, who seems a bit annoyed that he made the trip, tells him that nobody is aware of his existence and that he must keep a low profile. Nevertheless, Mathieu is determined to meet his brothers.

Considered by many as contemporary French cinema’s great humanist, Philippe Lioret (Welcome - SFFF 2009) once again, in his quietly unassuming style, tells a subtle and intricate story where nothing feels forced. A Kid is a touching, gentle, and lovely little film with a big heart.
