A 1973 anti-capital punishment thriller starring two of France's most iconic actors: Jean Gabin and Alain Delon.

After an early release from prison, Gino (Alain Delon), a former bank robber, finds honest work thanks to Germain (Jean Gabin), an ex-cop turned educator, and a new love, Lucie (Mimsy Farmer). But when a vengeful cop (Michel Bouquet) begins to stalk him, and his ex-gang tries to lure him back, his determination to go straight is pushed to the breaking point.

Two Men in Town features the third – and arguably the best – pairing of two of French cinema's most iconic actors. The film also features a very young Gérard Depardieu in a brief role. The film was hugely popular upon its release in France in 1973.

JEAN GABIN
From the early 1930's until his death in 1976, the bulky, sexy, and brooding Jean Gabin was one of France's greatest movie heroes. Gabin stars in two films at this year's SFFF, reflecting the span of his long career (more than six decades!): Port of Shadows (1938) and Two Men in Town (1973). In the first, Gabin is the "jeune premier," in the second he has become the patriarch of French cinema. It has been said that Gabin can do more with one glance than most stars can with pages of script. Marlene Dietrich called him the “true love of (her) life.” And here in Sacramento, we are always excited when Jean Gabin is part of the SFFF's program. Both films will be introduced by our favorite Gabin expert: Chuck Zigman!
