REVIEWS

There are a myriad of twists and turns and Herry never once loses you, as you remain completely captivated and intrigued as to how this tale will conclude. Stefan Pape - HeyUGuys

Filled with strong performances and numerous twists that keep the tension high. Jordan Mintzer - The Hollywood Reporter

Sandrine Kiberlain shines in this pacy, Paris-set and just-silly-enough thriller. Dave Calhoun - Time Out

A clever example of mainstream French cinema from the daughter of Miou-Miou and Julien Clerc (...) Between its playful manipulation of audience expectations and the almost insouciant way it toys with the notion of guilt, Number One Fan would have tickled the likes of Alfred Hitchcock to no end. Herry doesn’t imitate the master, as so many other directors have, but confidently pursues her own priorities, and in so doing, uncovers a sort of dignity in a character who so easily might have seemed pathetic.

Muriel (another astute comical performance by Sandrine Kiberlain, 9 Month Stretch – SFFF 2014, who was nominated for a 2015 César) is a big talker. In fact, she loves making up fantastic stories all the time.

Muriel is a beautician who has been pop singer Vincent Lacroix’s (Laurent Lafitte, Bright Days Ahead – SFFF 2014) number one fan for the past two decades. She spends most of her free time keeping up with his new songs, attending his shows, reading gossip magazines about his private life, sending him fan mail, and even tracking him down to his house. One night, when Vincent – her idol! – knocks on her door and asks for her help, she cannot refuse... His weird request turns Muriel’s life upside down as she embarks on a journey that even she could not have invented.

Seasoned with twists, colorful characters, and suspense, Number One Fan is a laugh-out-loud comedy directed by first-time director Jeanne Herry, daughter of legendary singer Julien Clerc (who did not inspire the narcissist character of Lacroix!) and acting icon Miou-Miou.
