REVIEWS

Catherine Deneuve goes 'On My Way,' and it's an enjoyable ride. LA Times

"On My Way" finds Deneuve warm and natural, completely open and yet subtle, able to suggest much with little, allowing us to read her thoughts. Mick LaSalle - San Francisco Chronicle

You can tell Deneuve is relishing the chance to play not a great beauty, not a national legend, but a simple, human basket case - a woman who has been her own worst enemy for so long that she's ready to give up the fight. Ty Burr - Boston Globe

Now in her early sixties, former beauty queen Bettie (Catherine Deneuve) finds herself jilted by her lover and left alone to deal with the financial problems facing her family’s restaurant. What begins as a quick drive to clear her head turns into a full-fledged road trip, and along the way there are chance meetings, a Miss France reunion, and renewed ties with her estranged daughter and grandson. And maybe, at the end of the road, she will have turned her life around for the better...

Catherine Deneuve gives one of the great performances of her career in On My Way. Bercot’s well-crafted film – which expertly balances scenes of family conflict with moments of delightful humor – provides Deneuve the opportunity to show a range of emotion and depth of character that is so rare for actresses “of a certain age.”

Catherine Deneuve also stars in Donkey Skin, Jacques Demy's 1970's musical fantasy, playing this year at the Festival. Treat yourself to a "Deneuve Double Feature" on Sunday, June 22!

Shown with Anaïs by Julie Benegmos.

Q&A with Le Professeur Kevin Elstob follows both screenings.
