REVIEWS

A subtly effective drama-cum-thriller from budding auteur Elie Wajeman! (...) “Reminiscent of the early films of James Gray, this brooding portrait of a Jewish drug dealer caught between family ties and dreams of a better life is backed by strong lead performances from a cast of relative newcomers. – Jordan Mintzer (The Hollywood Reporter)

Beautifully conceived and executed!
Fionnuala Halligan (Screen Daily)

Cleverly cinematic! [An] intimate and dexterous debut feature.

Unsatisfied with his life and wanting to escape his destructive brother (portrayed by filmmaker Cédric Kahn), small-time drug dealer Alex (Pio Marmaï, also starring in DELICACY playing this year at the SFFF) decides to move to Israel to join his cousin who is opening a restaurant in Tel Aviv. Not particularly religious but seeing his Aliyah (“ascent” of the Jews to Israel) as his only chance for a new life, Alex embarks on a personal journey to reconnect with his Jewish culture and find his own balance in the process. Torn between making his Aliyah, his drug selling, his complicated love life and a destructive brother, Alex will have to find his own way and make a final decision.
