Armand (the always excellent Denis Podalydès, also starring in THE DANDELIONS playing this year at the SFFF) and his wife Hélène are pharmacists in the suburb of Paris, living below the apartment of Armand’s mother-in-law. Armand is also an amateur magician, and he is just preparing a show for the birthday of his mistress’s daughter when he finds out that his long forgotten grandmother, Berthe, has died and that he must arrange for her funeral.
